(North Devon Gazette, April 2014) “Local care consortium battles the big boys”

Care companies join forces to win council contract.

SEVEN North Devon care and support companies have joined forces to win a major contract to provide services for Devon County Council.

Firms formed a North Devon Care Consortium to compete with large national companies bidding to for inclusion in the county council’s new Care Framework Agreement.

Chapter Care (North Devon) Ltd; Mullholland Care; Lycette Care; Comficare; Dome Care; Phoenix Care; and Holsworthy Healthcare – Deer Park will provide a range of services for all conditions and ages.

John Dockrell, of lead provider Chapter Care, said: “We have a group of companies who are specialists in their fields with an enormous range of skill sets from EMI, to learning disabilities, dementia, mental health needs, physical disabilities, post-hospital care, autism and Asperger’s; the list goes on and on.

“The beauty of this consortium is the range of expertise available and because we all work together so closely, we can monitor the quality to make sure that we are delivering on our promises.”

The new framework went live at the beginning of the month and the new consortium is keen to reassure its current clients and potential new clients that it’s business as usual.

“We have an existing client base who are extremely happy with the service they receive; nothing will change for them,” said Mr Dockrell.

“All this means is that new business will be given to the providers on the framework agreement only.

“Clients will have a choice of whether they want one of the large, national care companies or a local care agency with its heart and soul based in North Devon. For us, The North Devon Care Consortium not only offers the county council excellent value for money, it also will ensure that North Devon’s local needs are understood and respected.”

Koren Turner of Mullholland Care added: “As a group of seven local care companies that have been operating in North Devon for many years, we understand the local market and the needs of local people.

“To us, it’s about ensuring that the quality of the service that we provide is of the highest order.”
